How Does the Car Brake System Work?

The car brake system operates as follows:

1. Brake Pad and Brake Shoe

   When the brake pedal is pressed, brake fluid is sent to the brake caliper (or wheel cylinder in certain scenarios), which triggers the brake pad (for disc brakes) or brake shoe (for drum brakes).

2. Brake Caliper

   In disc brake systems, the caliper clamps the brake pad onto the spinning brake rotor, creating friction. In drum brake systems, the wheel cylinder pushes the brake shoe against the inside of the brake drum.

3. Brake Rotor

   For disc brakes, the rotor is the flat, spinning disc. The friction between the brake pad and the rotor slows down the wheel. In drum brakes, the brake drum serves a similar purpose.

The vehicle slows or stops as friction between these components turns kinetic energy into heat, effectively putting it to a standstill. Regular maintenance and quality brake components are essential for car safety and performance.
